Committing to a bathroom renovation project can seem daunting, especially if you only have one full bathroom in your home. You’re desperate for an upgrade, but you’re just so unsure how to survive the process. Well, luckily for you, we have some tips and tricks to help you sail right through your bathroom renovation.

How to survive your bathroom renovation

Renovating your bathroom can cause quite the upheaval for your day-to-day life, especially if you only have one bathroom. So, what can you do to make the process easier? Let’s dive right in.

Shower and wash your hair before the project starts.

This might seem fairly obvious, but you might have to go without a proper washing for a few days. So it’s a good idea to get in a good shower before the work starts. It’s wise to scope out alternative shower facilities like at a nearby gym, a kind neighbor’s house or at a family member’s house.

Pack up the bathroom.

You’ll need to pack up the area, clearing it of all products, decor and linens before the work starts. This is a great opportunity for you to go through your products and clear out what you no longer use. Be sure to set aside your necessities or stock up on travel sized products to bring with you to your alternative shower locations.

Have baby wipes & hand sanitizer on hand

For some duration during the renovation, the water to the house may need to be turned off at some points. It’s wise to keep these things handy for quick and easy clean ups.

Keep your pets safe & contained

It’s not unusual for workers to be going in and out of the house, sometimes carrying very heavy materials with them which might require them to prop open a door. You’ll want to set your pets up in a safe place, whether that’s in another room of the house with a door or you make a reservation for Fido at a pet resort. If you choose to keep them in another room, be sure to provide them with food, water, litter boxes/piddle pads, and anything that might offer them comfort with all the extra noise.

Fill up a few clean buckets with water

While the water is turned off, it’s smart to keep a few buckets on hand. One to use to flush the toilet and one to use for washing as you need it.

Like with any renovation project, a little preparation goes a long way to maintain a semblance of normalcy.
