Remodeling your outdated kitchen is probably something you’ve been dreaming about for years. You’ve saved up, and now you’re confident you have enough money to design the kitchen of your dreams. Or…do you? As with any renovation project, a kitchen remodel budget can quickly get out of hand if you’re not careful. Charlotte General Contractor, Meridian Design Build, is sharing some tips on how to stick to your kitchen remodel budget.

Sticking to your kitchen remodeling budget with Charlotte General Contractor: Meridian Design Build

Have a clear plan.

Having a clear plan is job number one when it comes to sticking to your kitchen remodeling budget. And job number two is to not deviate from that plan. Remodeling magazine’s 2019 Cost vs. Value Report indicates that a major kitchen remodel costs about $66,200 in a midrange house, estimating that homeowners recoup about 62.1% of the investment when they sell.

A kitchen remodel job is not one you want to mishandle. Especially not when the costs can easily spiral out of control. But having a clear plan will help you stick to your budget along the way.

Sign a detailed contract.

It’s vital that your contract be crystal clear with exactly what’s included, both in parts and labor. Knowing from the get-go what the contractor is going to be responsible for is key. This detailed contract will help you understand what work will incur extra charges and what you will have to buy personally.

Don’t be dazzled by the showroom.

Whether you’re shopping for the tile for your backsplash, the material for your countertops or even your appliances, it’s easy to be dazzled into trashing your budget altogether. Keep your goals in mind and be prepared to resist temptation. Ask yourself, do you really need all the bells and whistles? As appealing as they may be, your clear plan should help you sidestep the temptation in the end.

Avoid making last-minute changes.

Again, you’ve made your plan and it’s vital you stick to it. Last-minute changes can cost you a pretty penny, sending your kitchen remodeling budget sky-high. There are a process and timeline for everything on purpose. Changing your mind about the flooring after the cabinets have been installed creates a lot of extra work. And that work will cost you.

Be mindful of the small things.

Even the smallest, seemingly most insignificant things like drawer pulls can add up. While a $10 drawer pull may not seem like that big of a deal, you might start to see dollar signs when you realize you need twenty of them. Things like cabinet pullouts, lighting fixtures, and backsplash tiles can all be surprisingly expensive if you’re not a careful shopper.
